FTC Slams Brakes on COVID ‘Cures’ from Precision Patient Outcomes

The Non-Financial Ledger: The Price of False Hope

During a time of global panic, when families were terrified for their health and their future, Precision Patient Outcomes saw a business opportunity. The currency they dealt in was fear. The product they sold was false hope.

People were desperately searching for anything to protect themselves and their loved ones. This company exploited that desperation by marketing supplements with names like “COVID Resist.” They packaged and sold a lie, presenting it as a shield against a deadly virus. This is a profound betrayal of public trust.

The real damage is measured in the erosion of trust. When a company can so brazenly make life-or-death claims without evidence, it poisons the well for everyone. People who bought these products may have felt a false sense of security, possibly leading them to neglect proven protective measures, delaying real medical care, and putting themselves and their communities at greater risk. The ledger of harm here isn’t written in dollars and cents; it’s written in anxiety, betrayal, and endangerment.

Legal Receipts: The Court’s Mandate

The federal government, through the FTC, stepped in to stop the deception. The resulting court order is not a polite suggestion; it is a permanent ban on the company’s lies. The language of the injunction is crystal clear about what is now forbidden.

“IT IS ORDERED that Defendants… are permanently restrained and enjoined from making any representation that such product prevents or reduces the likelihood of infection with, or community transmission of, the SARS-CoV-2 virus; reduces the severity or duration of COVID-19; or otherwise cures, mitigates, or treats COVID-19, unless the FDA has specifically approved the representation.”

As part of the settlement, the company was also forced to contact its own customers and admit the truth. This is the exact notice, from Attachment A of the court filing, that CEO Margrett Priest Lewis had to send out, confessing that their scientific claims were baseless.

“According to the FTC: There is no competent and reliable scientific evidence that COVID Resist or VIRUS Resist will reduce the chances of contracting COVID-19. There is no competent and reliable scientific evidence that COVID Resist or VIRUS Resist will prevent you from contracting COVID-19. There is no competent and reliable scientific evidence that COVID Resist or VIRUS Resist will treat COVID-19 or its symptoms.”

Societal Impact Mapping: Poisoning Public Health

The actions of Precision Patient Outcomes contribute to a dangerous trend: the degradation of public health through misinformation. By flooding the market with unsubstantiated claims, they make it harder for ordinary people to distinguish between legitimate science and predatory marketing.

The court order now forces the company to adhere to a strict scientific standard for any future health claims. To claim a product “cures, mitigates, or treats any disease,” they must possess evidence from human clinical testing that is “randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled.” This is the gold standard of medical research. The fact that this had to be mandated by a court shows how far from legitimate science their original marketing was. Every dollar spent on these fake cures is a dollar that could have gone to real community support, proven medical treatments, or simply putting food on the table.

What Now? The Watchlist

This court order is a victory for consumer protection, but the system that allows such predatory behavior to flourish remains. Holding these actors accountable requires ongoing vigilance. The work doesn’t stop here.

  • Corporate Role: CEO Margrett Priest Lewis
  • Corporation: Precision Patient Outcomes, Inc.
  • Regulatory Body: Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

Regulatory bodies like the FTC can stop harms after they happen. Real, preventative power lies with us. We can build stronger communities by sharing verified health information from non-corporate sources, establishing mutual aid networks that provide actual care, and demanding a healthcare system that prioritizes people over profit. Question every miracle cure, especially the ones sold for profit during a crisis.
